López Obrador reiterates invitation to Nicolás Maduro and supports Venezuela’s self-determination

The president-elect of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured that he will not withdraw the invitation to the Venezuelan Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, to the ceremony of command, next Saturday, December 1, and affirmed that his government “will respect self-determination, non-intervention”, affirming that “we want friendship with everyone “.

Since López Obrador announced that President Maduro was among the assistants to his inauguration, he has received a series of criticisms from both Mexican and Venezuelan opposition sectors.

However, already by the end of October, the next president of Mexico had stepped forward indicating that in his administration he would maintain a friendly policy with all the governments and peoples of the world, statements that he reaffirmed this Saturday during a press conference in which he rejected criticism of his decision to have the presence of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution.

“We have no reason to be involved in matters that do not correspond to us. The best is neutrality. We will respect the self-determination, the non-intervention, the peaceful solution of the controversies, the cooperation for the development, and we want friendship with everyone”, said the left-wing minded Mexican politician.

“Every day it is about Venezuela, every day it is about Venezuela. (…) The case of Venezuela, I do not know, fifty, sixty dead people, what is happening is very regrettable, but in our country we have fifty or sixty deaths per week, and it turns out that (it is) by the effect of the media, in a Hitlerian strategy, because a lie that is repeated many times becomes a truth, the handling and manipulation can stun you”. said Lopez Obrador during an interview in 2017.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador will assume as president of Mexico on Saturday, December 1, after being elected on July 1 with 53.19 percent of the vote. The investiture will also be attended by the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, and Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, among others.
