The International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism was established in tribute to the victims of the Night of Broken Glass (Kristallnacht) of Germany and Austria in 1938.

During «The Night of Broken Glass» or Kristallnacht, which occurred on November 9 and 10, 1938, around one hundred Jews were killed by troops of the German Nationalist Party and teams of the special forces of the Nazi Germany.

Around 30,000 Jews were arrested and sent to the concentration camps of Dachau, Sachsenhausen and Buchenwald. This action was a reflection of the policies of hatred against the Jewish population promoted by Adolf Hitler.
