Venezuela in solidarity with Cuba after expulsion of its diplomats in Washington

Venezuela expressed solidarity with the Republic of Cuba over the untimely decision of the Government of the United States of reducing the diplomatic staff of its embassy in Havana on September 29, alleging attacks against its officials.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Venezuelan Chancellory, was also questioned the US order issued on Tuesday, Oct. 3, to remove 15 officials from the Cuban Embassy in Washington.

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deep concern and denounces this unfounded and unacceptable decision, as well as the pretext used to justify it, by asserting that the Cuban Government did not take all appropriate measures to prevent the alleged incidents”, as reads part of the statement.

Likewise, Caracas expressed its support and solidarity with Cuba in the face of constant sieges aimed at disrupting diplomatic relations.

Following is the full statement issued by the Foreign Ministry:

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, in the name of the Bolivarian People and Government, expresses his firm and undefeatable solidarity with the Brotherly Government and people of the Republic of Cuba, on the occasion of the recent actions by the American Government.

On September 29, 2017, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced the decision to significantly reduce the diplomatic staff of their embassy in Havana and withdraw all family members on the grounds that “have been made attacks” against officials of the US Government in Cuba, which have affected their health.

On October 3, 2017, once again, the US Government, in an unjustified action, decided that 15 officials of the Cuban Embassy in Washington must leave the territory of the United States, on the grounds that they have reduced their diplomatic staff in Havana and that the Cuban Government would not have taken the necessary steps to prevent “attacks” against them.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its deep concern and denounces this unfounded and unacceptable decision, as well as the pretext used to justify it, by asserting that the Cuban Government did not take all appropriate measures to prevent the alleged incidents.

The Venezuelan people and the Government ratify their solidarity with the Cuban people and Government, in this scenario where the US Government seeks to provoke an unwanted escalation, as well as weaken and further back bilateral relations, already affected by the announcement of a new policy made last June by President Donald Trump.
