Unasur maintained dialogue as the only option for peace in Venezuela

The Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), Ernesto Samper, confirmed that this regional bloc maintained the path of dialogue as the best option to help consolidate stability and peace in Venezuela.

“The Secretariat of UNASUR maintained the line drawn by the companions, in which they point to dialogue as the best way to overcome the clashes that were then already polarizing the sisterly republic,” said Samper during the presentation of his management report, corresponding to the 2014-2017 period, in Quito, Ecuador.

He added that dialogue is always the only option to avoid violence. “I am optimistic that while dialogue and peace in Colombia were a point of arrival after half a century of violence, fortunately in Venezuela dialogue and peace can be a starting point in order for violence not to start.”

He reiterated that the Venezuelan Government and the political opposition must make an act of mutual acknowledgement for dialogue to have a firm basis; and stressed that it is necessary to seek in a jointly way for the solutions to the problems of Venezuela.

He pointed out that the dialogue boards between the Bolivarian Government and the self-called Board of Unity (MUD) have served to open spaces of trust, necessary to contribute to peace in the country and in the Latin American region.

Samper recalled that, in order to achieve the tranquility of the country, was initiated a new stage of these talks with the elaboration of a document for democratic coexistence.

In this sense, he highlighted the formation of a commission to follow up the agreements generated in the dialogue tables, composed of the accompanying members of this process, which will help to stimulate the exchange process between both sectors.
