Maduro: Chavez opened the paths for peace in Colombia

“Commander Hugo Chavez opened the paths to consolidate peace in Colombia,” said on Tuesday the Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, while assuring that the signing of the Final Agreement held this Monday in Cartagena de Indias, will bring a new era of happiness to the Colombians.
Chavez stressed that the first achievement of Commander Hugo Chavez was to re-position the issue of the humanitarian agreement and of peace.
He recalled that by his impulse in the dialogues for peace, Chavez was attacked by the Colombian and Venezuelan right wing media, which rejected the negotiations between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC-EP).
Maduro stressed that Hugo Chavez “managed to build the confidence necessary to start the negotiations process which culminated in the signing of the peace agreement in Cartagena.”
In this regard, he expressed his desire that this stage of peace in Colombia manages to open a new era of closer ties with his country, in a sovereign way, “without interference from anyone.”
“I am sure that peace will bring to Colombia a new era of happiness and brotherly relations with Venezuela,” he reiterated.
