Venezuelan dignitary calls on the people of Colombia to unite to safeguard sovereignty

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, made an explicit call for unity between the peoples of Colombia and Venezuela. The Head of State urged the forging of a «perfect union» between both nations so that no one can attempt to violate their sovereignty and to fulfill «Bolívar’s mandate of permanent union and shared happiness.»

During his address this Wednesday, the Venezuelan leader underscored the strategic importance of binational unity. Despite attempts by the oligarchy to divide the two countries, he affirmed that they remain vigilant to guarantee peace and stability. «The greatest guarantee of peace and stability is unity,» declared President Maduro.

Consequently, he extended his call to the various sectors of Colombian society: «I make a Great-Colombian call to the common people of Colombia, to their social movements, political forces, and their military,» he expressed, reiterating the call for a perfect union with Venezuela as a shield against possible threats to the sovereignty of both nations.

He also provided historical context for his proposal. He noted that the call is being made in a significant year, marking two centuries since the approval of the Fundamental Law that founded the «Gran Colombia» (Great Colombia) and 206 years since the founding of what he described as a «great idea» and a «great nation» that fought for South American freedom.

Likewise, the Venezuelan Head of State expressed deep affection for the Colombian people. He reaffirmed his feelings toward the ordinary citizens, social movements, political forces, and military of Colombia, for whom he expressed a close understanding and particular respect.

Finally, he assessed Venezuela’s current situation in the face of the damage attempted by U.S. imperialism. He also assured that, despite these adversities, the country is transforming into «blessings of life» and an «unwavering will to fight» for its society, thus projecting an image of national resistance and strength.
