The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated the birthday of Saint José Gregorio Hernández through his accounts on social media. The Head of State emphasized that the canonization of the Venezuelan saint “represents a pact of love between God and the people,» thanking Pope Francis for this ecclesiastical recognition.
The National Dignitary highlighted the figure of the Venezuelan doctor as an example of the compatibility between faith and science. Likewise, he identified him as the founder of social medicine in Venezuela and Latin America, for his dedication to caring for the most humble and needy ones.
In his declarations, he emphasized that in difficult times for the country, the message and smile of hope of the Saint protect the people with his blessings. He also expressed his firm belief in the spiritual and healing powers of José Gregorio Hernández.
He also urged the population “to transform faith into a permanent work of love,» following the legacy of the renowned doctor. Finally, he asked the power of the Saint to protect the nation and allow it to travel the path toward peace, life, and prosperity that Venezuela deserves.
