Trade between Venezuela and Colombia grew 14% in first semester of 2025

The formal trade relationship between Venezuela and Colombia maintains its positive trend. During the first semester of 2025, bilateral trade registered a substantial growth of between 13% and 14% compared to the same period last year, according to Luis Alberto Russian, president of the Venezuelan-Colombian Chamber of Commerce (Cavecol).

This increase is reflected in concrete figures: trade volume increased from approximately $500 million to approximately $560 million. Russian reiterated that, within this trade, Venezuelan imports from Colombia remain higher than exports, a characteristic dynamic of the bilateral relationship.

The union leader emphasized that the relationship between Caracas and Bogotá is diverse and requires strengthening multiple areas in the commercial sphere. This complexity and variety of sectors offers vast potential to continue expanding business opportunities between the two nations.

The remarkable growth of Venezuelan exports is another notable aspect. Recently, Carlos Luna, director of Procolombia, reported that Venezuela’s sales to its neighbor increased by an astonishing 92% between 2022 and 2025, a sign of a productive recovery.

A key milestone for this new momentum was the signing of a memorandum of understanding on July 17 in Caracas. This agreement seeks to create a shared Special Economic Zone of Peace, designed to boost bi-national development and strengthen productive sectors.

The implementation of this special zone directly aims to guarantee greater security and investment in the border region, a historically complex area. This institutional framework is expected to consolidate trade growth and transform it into sustainable development for both countries.

In conclusion, the data for the first half of 2025, combined with the institutional agreements, paint an optimistic picture for the economic future between Venezuela and Colombia, laying the foundation for a stronger and more diversified trade relationship.
