The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Commander-in-Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Nicolás Maduro Moros, sent a message of congratulations to the soldiers of the United Liberator Army, heirs to the legacy of Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre, within the framework of the commemoration of the 214th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of Venezuela.
In his speech, the president recalled July 5, 1811, which marked the beginning of the break with three centuries of colonial domination in the Americas, characterized by abuse and imperial oppression. He also emphasized that in the eight years between that date and August 7, 1819, a revolutionary state, Gran Colombia, was consolidated, along with a national identity and a future project promoted by the United Liberator Army.
The President highlighted Bolívar’s sacrifice in leading his troops in the Campaign of the South, as well as the strategic alliance with Grand Marshal Antonio José de Sucre, whom he called «the Giant of Cumaná,» key to the liberation of Peru and the definitive defeat of the Spanish Empire in South America.
The President emphasized that, today more than ever, Venezuela has a people united in a civic-military-police fusion, capable of confronting and defeating the conspiracies of imperialism. He affirmed that the people is united and advancing toward «the splendid greatness of the Homeland,» and called on the FANB to maintain the utmost consciousness, unity, and revolutionary morale:
«We are the people of the liberators,» he concluded, reaffirming the commitment of the government and the armed forces to the defense of sovereignty and the historic Bolivarian project.
