During the assessment of the deployment of the Andes 2025 Task Force, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that the national government will continue to implement the necessary actions to guarantee aid in the areas affected by the rainfalls of recent days.
After reviewing reports from Mérida, Barinas, Portuguesa, and Trujillo states, and verifying the distribution of food, water, essential supplies, healthcare personnel, and machinery in the respective states, the head of state participated in a television broadcast with the governor of Táchira state, Freddy Bernal. During the broadcast, the regional leader discussed the most affected localities and the work being carried out to reverse the damage caused by the climate phenomenon in the region.
Bernal reported that twelve municipalities have been impacted by the rainfalls, particularly the Junín and San Cristóbal municipalities, and the Fernández Feo municipalities, where support has been provided by the Minister of People’s Power for Transportation, Ramón Araguayán, and the Vice President for Public Works and Services, Jorge Márquez. Thanks to this joint effort, communication between Táchira and Colombia has been restored.
Another area receiving assistance is Junín, where a town called San Vicente, home to 870 families, was completely isolated.
Was ordered study of climate impact on Venezuelan water bodies and soils:
Regarding prevention, President Maduro ordered a study of the climate impact on the country’s water bodies and soils to investigate possible impacts: «I have just ordered a study of the factors currently being disrupted by the climate emergency: rivers, streams, ravines, soil conditions, etc.,» he said.
The study is being conducted by Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, Vice President for the Science, Technology, Education, and Health Sector; Ricardo Menéndez, Vice President for the Planning Sector; and Ricardo Molina, Minister of People’s Power for Ecosocialism.
The president stated that the purpose of this research is to advance «the deepening of the climate change map, zone by zone, territory by territory, in order to be two steps ahead of the climate emergency.»
