Through a statement issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounced the negligent, biased, and cowardly attitude of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, who has not issued a statement on the situation to which Venezuelan migrants are subjected by the governments of the United States and El Salvador.

“The Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces the negligent, biased, and cowardly attitude of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, regarding the serious violations committed against Venezuelan citizens abroad.
More than six weeks have passed since President Nicolás Maduro directly informed Mr. Türk about the kidnapping of more than 250 Venezuelans in El Salvador, who were transferred to inhumane detention centers. Added to this is the case of Venezuelan girl Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal, unjustifiably detained in the United States. However, the High Commissioner has remained in an accomplice silence, neither demanding her release nor issuing a clear statement.
His recent lukewarm statement reveals an unacceptable double standard: while virulently attacking Venezuela, he remains silent on the abuses committed by governments aligned with hegemonic interests. He seems more focused on maintaining his position than on defending human rights.
The position of High Commissioner demands firmness, not ambiguity. His lack of action in the face of these crimes reflects a negligent and complacent attitude toward systematic violators of Venezuelans’ human rights. Venezuela will continue to demand justice and denounce the political use of our migrants as hostages in the war against our people.”
