Rodríguez: Venezuela will elect Governor of Guayana Esequiba

Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that «on May 25, the Venezuelan people will elect the Governor of Guayana Esequiba and its regional legislators and the National Assembly in accordance with its National Constitution.»

«Venezuela will defend its historic rights to its sacred territory,» stated Rodríguez in a message on her Telegram channel.

She denounced that «Guyana not only evades international law and its obligations but also plays very well its role as Exxon Mobil’s foreman.»

She recalled that «Guyana is the continuation of the historical dispossession of Venezuelan territory by its colonial masters.»

In this regard, the Vice President stated that «Venezuela is consistent with its historical position of not recognizing the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice to resolve the territorial dispute over the Essequibo region.»

She also reiterated that «no process rigged by Exxon Mobil’s lobbying at the United Nations (UN) will force Venezuela to comply with illegitimate decisions. Guyana has no choice but to negotiate within the framework of the Geneva Agreement, rather than seeking bellicose solutions that threaten regional peace.»

She emphasized that «in national unity, we say every morning: The sun of Venezuela rises in the Essequibo.»

Last April, the Venezuelan government rejected, in a statement, Guyana’s previous statements regarding the dispute over the Essequibo region, in which it flatly denied its involvement in planning a «false flag» operation against the Venezuelan nation.

At the time, Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez denounced a covert operation by Guayana regarding the participation of the ExxonMobil oil company.
