215th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Commemorated at the National Pantheon in Caracas

This Saturday, commemorative events were held at the National Pantheon and Mausoleum of Liberator Simón Bolívar in Caracas, marking the 215th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which took place on April 19, 1810.

During the event, Bolivarian government authorities raised the national flag while the notes of the anthem «Gloria al Bravo Pueblo» (Glory to the Brave People) were heard.

The solemn event was led by the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Trade, Coromoto Godoy; the Minister of People’s Power for the Social Process of Work, Eduardo Piñate; also the Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas; and the minister for the Penitentiary Service, Julio Zerpa, along with the Comptroller General of the FANB, M/G José Serrano Gotera; who signed the document issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Internal Affairs, Justice, and Peace (MPRIJP), in which was recorded the event in honor of such an important date in the history of Venezuela as a free and independent nation.

As you may recall, on April 19, 1810, the then Captain General of Venezuela, Vicente Emparan, was brought to a town council to question the Venezuelan people about the Spanish crown’s rule on Venezuelan soil.

Later, the representative of the King of Spain, Ferdinand the 7th, upon receiving a negative response from the men and women of Venezuela demanding freedom, expressed that he did not want to command either, which led to the beginning of sovereignty, which was consolidated some time later with the signing of the Act of Independence on July 5, 1811, and the Battle of Carabobo on June 24, 1821.
