The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, praised the work of rural men and women on the occasion of commemorating the World Day of Peasant Struggle:
«On this Holy Thursday of profound reflection, we celebrate the World Day of Peasant Struggle and recognize the immense commitment that rural men and women have to food production,» expressed the head of state in a message posted on his Telegram channel.
He affirmed that the Bolivarian Government will continue to join forces and capabilities to increase agricultural production. This is a sustained effort of 25-years, reflecting the vision of the future, the commitment, and the work initiated by Commander Chávez to prioritize production, invest in technology, and end large estates.
«Venezuela has the best climate, fertile soils, abundant water sources, and a hardworking people,» he asserted.
He also affirmed that the Bolivarian Revolution will not back down on the achievements of the historic struggle for land: «You have my support!» added the President.
The World Day of Peasant Struggle has been commemorated since 1996, when the Second Conference of the international Via Campesina (Peasant’s Way) movement was held in memory of the massacre of 19 landless workers in Eldorado Dos Carajás, Brazil. The aim was to call for respect for peasant rights and demand guarantees for sustainable development of the rural sector with inclusive public policies.
