(The process of ) applications for the positions of deputies to the National Assembly, legislators of the state legislative councils, and state governors began yesterday and will end on April 11.
Considering the number of positions up for election, more than 70,000 applications are expected for the May 25 elections. This process is being conducted by the National Electoral Board and will be conducted through the Automated Nomination System.
During this period, political organizations legally registered with the National Electoral Council must create or modify their nominations, form the corresponding alliances, submit their nominations to the subordinate body, review and correct the requirements, and then accept or reject the candidacies.
In this regard, Conrado Pérez Briceño, principal rector of the CNE and member of the Civil Registry and Electoral Commission, highlighted the importance of these elections in strengthening democracy in the country: “I invite all Venezuelans to attend each of the voting centers on May 25th to choose the figures who will be prominent in each of the regions where they live,” stated the rector.
He emphasized that voting is a right and must be exercised as such. “We never renounce our rights.” He also asserted that “Venezuela needs unity and, fundamentally, needs to dispel all acts of hate.”
Audits
As in previous electoral processes, the Electoral Branch will initiate sixteen audits, with the participation of political party representatives. Regarding the polling station members for these elections, he reported that the same members who were present in the July 28 election were «ratified» and will soon begin their training nationwide.
April 27th Consultation:
The National Popular Consultation, scheduled for April 27th, has the support of the National Electoral Council. Regarding this matter, Pérez Briceño, a member of the electoral body, reported that «this time the count will be automated, for greater protection and security» in this process where the organized People’s Power selects the projects to be implemented in each of its territories.
Additionally, 5,718 polling stations will be enabled for this process. To date, more than 36,000 projects have been registered.
Who and How are they applying?
Rector Conrado Pérez Briceño explained to the Últimas Noticias newspaper team that «each political party has a code, and through that code and username, the legally authorized person, nominated by each party, nominates for the position to be elected.»
This entire process, led by the National Electoral Board, is automated. In this regard, it should be noted that 38 political parties participated in the July 28 election, and it is estimated that most of these organizations will nominate their candidates for this process.
After the nomination period concludes is expected a summary of the candidates registered for the various elected positions in the elections scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
