During a work journey dedicated to the Popular and Communal Government System in Caracas, President Nicolás Maduro addressed recent US trade policies. In this context, he questioned Donald Trump’s statements, who justified the tariff and tax measures as actions to defend his nation, calling them a «day of liberation»:
«I say, does the United States has to free itself from the world, or is it the world that must free itself from the United States?» he reaffirmed.
President Maduro warned of the intensification of a global confrontation in the trade and economic spheres. However, he assured that the nation has strategically prepared itself to face this situation.
“Our economy is under a war. I tell the people of Venezuela, just as we overcame the pandemic, Venezuela will be the first country to overcome Trump’s tariffs,” said the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
He also highlighted the existence of concrete plans developed through proactive leadership: “We are prepared for these things; Venezuela has plans, because we are leaders. Yesterday we had a meeting with the productive sector of the 13 Engines; We have modestly been building our own plan, and today we are in the best position under the Plan de la Patria (Homeland Plan), the Seven Transformations (7T), to continue the process of our own economic models and overcome any tariff war Trump has launched. We will move forward with national unity; so I decree it, and so it shall be.”
