The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, urged United Nations (UN) authorities to intercede regarding the «forced disappearance» of 238 Venezuelan migrants in a prison in El Salvador.
In context, during a presidential address from Bolívar state, the President emphasized that a week after the deportation of the Venezuelans to the CECOT prison in El Salvador, neither the US government nor the Bukele administration have published the list «of those they have kidnapped in El Salvador.»
«What do you call that, justice, human rights, democracy? That is called, according to international law, the laws of the United States and El Salvador, forced disappearance, kidnapping,» he emphasized.
Consequently, given that the UN is an organization that guarantees human rights (HR), the Head of State contacted Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the organization’s Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, for their prompt intervention in actions that mobilize the return of Venezuelans who are «forcibly disappeared in El Salvador.»
He also added that the actions of these governments «are an attack on Venezuelan identity, on Venezuelan identity.»
«Fascist campaign of the Tren de Aragua» against Venezuelans:
He also denounced that the fascist opposition group requested and supported the measures against migrants by creating a campaign for months about the defunct «Tren de Aragua” (Aragua Train) criminal gang, which had operated in recent years in conspiracy, guarimbas (riots), and attacks on public services:
«Who took the Venezuelan criminals and the Tren de Aragua abroad? Who financed them to destabilize Venezuela? We Venezuelans know perfectly well that it was the extremist right wing: Leopoldo López, Juan Guaidó, María Corina Machado, Carlos Paparoni, Julio Borges,» he stated.
He also noted that «Venezuelan migration has its origins and causes in the economic war of that first stage between 2017 and 2022,» asserting that during the country’s progressive recovery, more than 1.2 million Venezuelans have returned to the country, joining various activities.
