A total of 177 Venezuelans returned this Thursday, February 20, from the Republic of Honduras, after being detained at the United States naval base in Guantanamo, Cuba, as reported by the Minister for Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, from the spaces of the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state:
«The Government of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, made all the logistical efforts so that those Venezuelans who were in Guantanamo were returned to our territory and we are fulfilling that at this time,» stressed Cabello, who also holds the Sectoral Vice Presidency for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace.
Within the framework of the Plan Vuelta a la Patria (Return To The Homeland Plan), the CONVIASA plane landed tonight with this group of compatriots: “We want to thank the government of Honduras from here for the effort they have made to serve as an intermediate point for these Venezuelans to return to our country,” announced the high official.
On the other hand, an official note from Tegucigalpa expressed that the process “is part of an effort of positive cooperation between the Governments of Honduras, the United States of America and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”
In his statements, the Minister for Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace also noted that “if there is any of them who has any details or any pending crime, the treatment will be the same as the group from last time. That is to say, we will act in accordance with the laws and respecting their human rights. They will not be subjected to any type of abuse and they will give the necessary hug to their families.”
