In a revolutionary approach that reaffirms the Government’s commitment to development and citizen participation, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, called on all sectors of society to participate in a national dialogue that will promote a great Constitutional Reform. This initiative was announced during the opening of the Judicial Year 2025, held at the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
President Maduro stressed the importance of cooperation between the Public Powers and national interests, to undertake this ambitious project:
«This year we face a significant challenge that requires everyone’s commitment. We must build a new Constitution, in an open dialogue with the participation of Venezuelan society,» he said.
To guide this process, the president outlined three fundamental elements that will serve as pillars of the constitutional debate:
1.Expansion of Democracy: Maduro emphasized the need to expand democracy in all scopes, the social, political, economic and cultural areas: “We must take advantage of the accumulated experience to strengthen our democratizing action,” he said.
2.Definition of a New Society: The president proposed reflecting on the values and principles that must define Venezuela in the 21st century: “It is essential to build a new modernity that replaces the decadent Western vision, based on Our-American ethics and spirituality,” he said.
3.Transformation of the Economic Model: In a context of transformation, the president highlighted the need to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons: “We must free ourselves from oil and promote a diverse economy that takes advantage of our wealth, such as the gas reserves we possess,” he stressed.
In his speech, the President urged the members of the special commission in charge of the reform, led by Attorney General Tarek William Saab, to continue their work with determination.
He acknowledged the complexity of the challenge, but insisted that, with effort, it is possible to achieve this goal.
«It is already being working on the call for a broad debate that will be accompanied by major proposals,» he concluded, addressing the representatives of the Public Branches and members of the diplomatic corps present.
