This Thursday, January 16, the honors were held inside the Federal Legislative Palace for the mortal remains of the Master, Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa, who in life was a Venezuelan philosopher of education, lawyer, politician, poet and literary critic. The activity is the first stop on the route of Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa’s remains to the National Pantheon.
The first vice president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, pointed out that today a fact of vindication is realized for who was an exemplary man, who from now on and after the approval of the agreement by parliament, will be taken to rest at the National Pantheon. Infante stressed that the distinguished Master was born on March 14, 1902 in Asunción, Nueva Esparta state: «He is going to the Pantheon, as he so deserves.»
He considered that Prieto is going to the Pantheon because he made great contributions to the country, for his works in education and to the construction of the Venezuelan State and educational model. In this sense, he remembered the deceased Arístobulo Istúriz, who with such admiration and strength carried forward the ideas of Prieto:
«The importance of taking the teacher Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa to the National Pantheon lies in the fact that in his life and work he represents fundamental values such as justice, equality and dedication to the common good. Recognizing him in this space of honor would be doing historical justice, exalting his contribution to the transformation of education and the development of critical thinking in Venezuela,» said the parliamentarian. Likewise, (he pointed out that) at this time the mortal remains are being transferred to the National Pantheon.
The formal ceremony was led by the First Vice President and Second Vice President of the Legislative Branch, Deputies Pedro Infante (PSUV/ Capital District) and América Pérez (PSUV/ Nueva Esparta), who were accompanied by a group of parliamentarians and family and friends of the Master.
