The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically and strongly rejects the recent joint actions between the Southern Command of the United States (US) and the Government of Guyana, which threaten regional stability and undermine the principles of international law, and constitute a threat to regional peace, by contradicting the spirit of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
In a statement published by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, through his social networks, the national Government assures that “the consolidation of the military installations of the Southern Command of the USA in Guyana is unacceptable, and represents a new provocation by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, to the detriment of the spirit of peace that governed the Argyle Agreement signed in Venezuela.»
The letter also states that the Venezuelan nation considers these actions to be a bellic agenda of the US administration that has no place in South America and even less in Essequibo: «The unacceptable expansion of naval and airport stations for military use is evidence of its effort to hinder the peaceful and negotiated resolution of the territorial dispute,» the letter states.
In this regard, the document highlights the call to Guyana to immediately cease these actions contrary to the international legal mutual understanding between both nations. It also states that the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, as part of the recognition of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, reaffirms its unrestricted commitment to the peaceful resolution of controversies.
