The Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Relations of Venezuela, Yván Gil, rejected through his Telegram account, the position of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, who instead of showing solidarity with the victims of the blockade and sanctions «puts himself on the side of those who sanction illegally, on the side of the liars and victimizers, and of the fascists who violate rights and disown the Venezuelan State.»

In this sense, he also stressed the urgency for the UN Secretary General to respect Venezuela and enforce the institutions of the system to which he owes himself. Minister Gil insisted that it is essential for the UN to act in accordance with its mandate and is not influenced by interests that harm the sanctioned nations.

He reiterated the need for the international community to recognize and respect Venezuela’s sovereignty and to take measures to protect countries affected by unilateral sanctions.
