Head of State announces full opening of border with Colombia on January 1, 2023

President Nicolás Maduro announced this Monday that as of January 1, 2023, the Venezuelan border with Colombia will be fully opened for the passage of vehicles, motorcycles, trucks and cars.

In the opinion of the National President, this action will be a New Year’s gift for the people who live on the common border between both nations.

During the meeting held at the “Casona Cultural Aquiles Nazoa” (Cultural House), in Caracas, with the members of the Expanded General Staff of the nation, the Head of State stressed that he is complying with everything discussed with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro:

“We are preparing everything to comply with what we announced, to fulfill the promise made with President Gustavo Petro to fully open the border on January 1, starting 2023”, he added.

Applauds progress in peace negotiations:

Similarly, the Head of State celebrated the progress in the peace negotiations between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), which are taking place in Caracas:

We are very happy about the great progress achieved. The peace of Colombia is the peace of Venezuela, of South America (…) Congratulations to the negotiators, to those involved, in these dialogue processes that are advancing towards a total, deep peace”, he emphasized.

Regarding the upcoming swearing in of Luis Inácio “Lula” Da Silva as president of the Federative Republic of Brazil, he reiterated his positive expectations given the new prospects for commercial, economic, political, diplomatic and cultural development between both nations.

Finally, President Maduro announced that there is good news about the meeting between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Netherlands, “but it will be announced in the coming days by the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.”

“Good news! Venezuela is improving its entire geopolitical, geostrategic environment,” he added.

This Monday, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, held a meeting with the ambassador of the Netherlands in the country, Robert Schuddeboom, in order to address the bilateral agenda between nations.
