Plasencia: Venezuela and Colombia will work to dignify the lives of their peoples

The Venezuelan ambassador to Colombia spoke this Wednesday after the delivery of credential letters to the president of the neighboring country, Gustavo Petro, and stressed that it is an important step that confirms the willingness of both governments to work to dignify the lives of their peoples:

We were welcomed by President Petro for the delivery of credentials. An event that confirms the commitment to brotherhood with a neighboring country and with governments that work to dignify the lives of their peoples”, said the diplomat in statements to Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

He explained that he spoke with Petro about Venezuela’s commitment to support peace in the New Granadean nation; in working for the integration and relations of two countries within the concert of the nations of Latin America.

Through Twitter, the ambassador also referred that with the accreditation before the Colombian Government “is resumed the commitment to peace and historical rapprochement of our peoples”.

In the interview granted to VTV, he also detailed that, together with the New Granadean mandate, he discussed “issues that we must resolve” such as rapprochement, and issues that are relevant in the region to “add to the consolidation of a path to improve all the citizens”.

Likewise, he noted that they also kept the importance of the community of Colombians in Venezuela and of compatriots in Colombia: “All these are matters that matter to us and concern us and we are going to work 24 hours a day”, he said.

Plasencia said that the recognition that Petro makes to the representation of Venezuela, allows recovering and overcoming “an irresponsible disagreement that should never have happened”.

He added that a “mapping” of the relations between the two countries is now necessary: “Venezuela and Colombia have a deep commitment. It is a historic event”, he indicated, as well as an objective to build wealth and development for the two peoples, in a close and united way between two governments, as he pointed out.

Earlier, Plasencia delivered his credential letters to President Gustavo Petro, at the Casa de Nariño, the seat of government in Bogotá.

This is the first official meeting of Plasencia with Petro, after 4 years of rupture of relations between the two countries due to the auspices of the previous governments of the neighboring country, to the destabilizing plans against Venezuela.

Restoring relations was one of Petro’s campaign promises. The authorities have already established contacts to seek to boost trade, especially on the border, and the Chancellories are advancing in a parliamentary work plan, according to the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez.
