Happy July 26 Cuba! We join the joy of the Cuban people, on this glorious day that recalls the dignity, courage and patriotic character of a generation of young revolutionaries who marked a before and after in the history of our Americas. Long live Fidel! Long live Cuba!” wrote the president on Twitter.

The text is shown accompanied by a short video that takes a tour of the stage of the armed struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958), a process that began with the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953.

The attacks were planned and directed by Fidel Castro, and, although they did not achieve their objectives from a military point of view, they marked the beginning of the rebellion that ended with the dictator’s flight and the subsequent triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
