USA dismissed, for lack of evidence, seven of the eight charges against Alex Saab

The United States Department of Justice dismissed seven charges of alleged money laundering against Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab. Prosecutor Kurt Lunkenheimer postponed the procedure for November 15, 2021, because it lacks evidence to support the accusations.

The only charge that would be imputed to Alex Saab, who was extradited from Cape Verde, would be “conspiracy to legitimize capitals”.

The diplomat’s defense stated that with this motion “it is made clear that materially the prosecution never possessed proving elements to link the diplomat with money laundering activities, as it was framed in the media to justify the kidnapping denounced from Venezuela”.

For her part, Alex Saab’s wife, Camila Fabri, affirmed that “the United States has nothing consistent in the case, it is pure media and harassment. We will continue defending the truth, and defending Venezuela, we will prove that my husband Alex is innocent”.
