Fanb praises humanitarian sense of the Armistice Treaty

The Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, on behalf of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), highlighted the decisive and magnanimous role that the Armistice and War Regularization Treaty had in the independence of Venezuela, 200 years ago .

The Treaty signed on November 26, 1820, which put an end to the bloodiest years of this struggle, was the first document of international humanitarian law in the world, and therefore it is the task of all those born in this sacred land, to study its content to be able to understand our past, its impact in the present time and its importance in the future ”, emphasizes the minister in a greeting published on Twitter for the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Armistice Treaty and the Regularization of the War, as referred AVN.

On the Bicentennial of this historical episode, the FANB ratified «the humanistic character of the Venezuelan people», and in the face of systematic imperialist attacks against the nation today, «the Bolivarian Project led by the commander in chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Nicolás Maduro Moros, does not rest in its efforts to exhort sanity, dialogue, understanding, to resolve differences civilly and politically, in the midst of agreements that contribute to social coexistence”, the statement reaffirms.

Following, the full content of the salutation:

In the glorious pages of our emancipatory deed, written with the sacrifice of thousands of patriots who gave their lives for freedom, we find one of the most formidable episodes that took place in those past and indelible times. We refer to the Armistice and War Regularization Treaties, endorsed in Trujillo by the Liberator and the enemy forces, and whose signature is 200 years old.

Worthy of admiration, was the decisive and magnanimous role that the Genius of America had in this agreement. The royal crown tried to order the revolutionary movement to lay down its arms and subscribe to the privileges that Spain promised its officers. But let’s remember how Bolívar, with political clarity and negotiation skills far superior to that of his opponents, not only rejected such an offer, but also used the armistice for a bold counter-proposal: to regularize the conflict. Without a doubt, one of his most brilliant diplomatic victories; This way, it was possible to humanize the armed conflict that, since 1813, had caused so many human losses – even unjustified – of Spaniards and Venezuelans.

The Treaty signed on November 26, 1820, which put an end to the bloodiest years of this struggle, was the first document of international humanitarian law in the world, and therefore it is the task of all those born in this sacred land, to study thoroughly its content in order to understand our past, its impact on the present and its significance in the future.

Today, on the bicentennial of this historic event framed in the battle for independence, it is necessary to highlight the humanistic character of the Venezuelan people, always moved by the highest feelings of justice, solidarity and brotherhood, even in the most critical moments. For this reason, while the enemies of the Nation persist in their intentions to attack the Republic, the Bolivarian Project led by the Commander in Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Nicolás Maduro Moros, does not rest in its effort to urge sanity, to dialogue, to understanding, to resolve differences civilly and politically, amidst agreements that contribute to social coexistence.

The sons and daughters of Bolívar and Chávez, inspired by the ideology bequeathed by the liberators, will at all times embrace the human cause, whatever their circumstances. Because in the past and today, our greatest victory is and will always be peace… Peace with dignity!

Chávez lives!… The Homeland continues! Independence and Socialist Homeland!… We shall live and overcome! Independence or nothing! Always loyal!… Never traitors! ”.
