Venezuela detects 774 new Covid-19 cases, surpasses 40,000 infections

The country’s health authorities have detected in the last 24 hours 717 Covid-19 cases of community transmission and 57 imported cases, for a cumulative of 774 in one day, as reported the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez on her Twitter account. After these figures, the country totals 40,338 since the beginning of the pandemic.

She explained that the Capital District, once again, is consolidated as the epicenter of the pandemic by reporting 223 cases, followed by Miranda state with 143 cases and Delta Amacuro with 64; Monagas 61, Mérida 52, Anzoátegui 32, La Guaira 25, Carabobo 17, Nueva Esparta 17, Yaracuy 14, Aragua 13, Amazonas 11, Guárico 9, Portuguesa 8, Zulia 8, Bolívar 7, Sucre 3, Trujillo 2, Falcón 2 and Lara with a single case.

Regarding the imported cases, she said that of the total, 54 came from Colombia, and 3 from Ecuador.

Of the parishes in Caracas most affected by the outbreak, she said Altagracia surpassed El Valle on Monday, reporting 28 cases, and Coche 21; Sucre in Catia with 16, San Juan 13, San Pedro 12, La Vega 10, El Recreo 9, Antímano 8, El Paraíso 8; San José 7, Caricuao, Cathedral; La Candelaria and San Bernardino with 5 cases each, Santa Rosalía 4, Santa Teresa 3, 23 de Enero 3, San Agustín, Macarao, and La Pastora with 2 cases each and El Junquito with a sibgle case. She said that there are confirmed cases in the 22 parishes of the capital city.

“Unfortunately we report that today (8) Venezuelans died from this virus: (2) men aged 86 and 55 from Nueva Esparta state, (1) 48-year-old male and (1) 59-year-old female from the Capital District, (2) men aged 69 and 62 in Táchira state, an 83-year-old woman from Lara, as well as a 61-year-old woman from Miranda state”, she said. Faced with this scenario, she stressed that the death toll rises to 337.

As of today in Venezuela there are 40,338 Covid-19 cases, of which 8,921 are active, 31,080 have recovered (77%), 3,964 are in Hospitals, 4,778 in CDI, 179 in Private Clinics, she added in the aforementioned social network.

The vice president also highlighted that the Venezuelan health system continues to be deployed throughout the country applying house-by-house tests. “To date, 1,706,093 tests have been carried out for the early detection of Coronavirus, which represents 56,870 tests per million inhabitants”.

“As announced by President Nicolás Maduro, today began the week of quarantine flexibilization in accordance with the Venezuelan formula of 7 + 7 to boost the economy. It is very important to maintain biosecurity measures and together guarantee the health of all”, argued Rodríguez.
