President urged to intensify information campaigns on the dangerousness of COVID-19

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, urged the country’s social communicators to intensify information campaigns on the dangerousness of COVID-19.

“I cannot understand when I pass a corner and I see people not wearing face masks”, said the President, when reflecting on the urgent need to comply with preventive measures to break the chains of transmission of the disease in the country.

“Why do we have to make a Decree to make it mandatory (the use of the face mask)? and if not a fine or jail, why? And what if it is a minority? But it is a minority that can infect the majority (…) a single person can contaminate much many more”, he explained.

Journalists and the media have a fundamental role in making the population aware of the lethality of this virus, which is circulating and for which a vaccine is not yet in sight, insisted the Head of State and Government.

Venezuela has ordered measures to stop the virus from spreading in the country, including the compulsory social quarantine, the suspension of academic and commercial activities; and has implemented a flexibility scheme applied only in the states and municipalities that do not present significant COVID-19 outbreaks.

However, President Maduro insisted that Tthe best treatment, the best vaccine, is to take care of yourself, to take care of the family, to take care of the workplace, to put on your face masks, take care of hygiene measures and thus continue advancing in the control of the pandemic in Venezuela”.

During the awarding act for the 2020 National Journalism Award, the President stressed that, in honor of the truth, the media must report on the threats posed by the exponential growth curves of the virus in neighboring countries such as Colombia and Brazil, and meanwhile the Government will continue carrying out its health control work on the border line to take care of the Venezuelan people.
