21,243 Venezuelans have returned to the country through the border

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reported on Wednesday that a total of 21,243 Venezuelans have entered the country through the border with Colombia and Brazil.

During a telephone contact to the “Con el Mazo Dando” (Hitting with the Hammer) program, the Venezuelan head of state explained that of the total number 4,147 people have entered through Zulia state, 11,633 compatriots entered through the border with Táchira state, 3,782 through Apure state and 1,168 returned through Santa Elena de Guairén, in Bolívar state. He highlighted that of these admissions, only 13 positive Covid-19 coronavirus cases were registered.

He noted that are being expected “two waves of thousands of Venezuelans who have had to protest, to block streets” to let them move to Venezuela. In this regard, he reported that this Wednesday departed from Bogotá (Colombia) 11 buses with almost 400 compatriots coming to the Simón Bolívar (border) bridge.

The National Government set up several epidemiological fences at the border to attend those nationals who are returning to the country, fleeing from xenophobia and humiliation. Likewise, President Maduro ordered maximum security to be maintained on the border with Colombia and Brazil, to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
