The director of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), Eloy Sira, announced that along with the office of the Governor of Miranda state, Héctor Rodríguez, the Ministry of People´s Power for Science and Technology, the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (IVSS) and a Private stainless steel company, is being developed an advanced prototype for an artificial respirator to assist patients affected by respiratory disease.
“We are already advancing, we have come through the fourth version of the metallic prototype that can be mass-produced for the Ministry of Health, for the National Government and the Public Health System”, he celebrated, and announced that in a relatively short time they will have the final product, thanks to the cooperation and joint effort of the State and the Venezuelan private industry.
Similarly, according to the information provided by Venezolana de Televisión, Sira commented that, in this arduous stage of the pandemic, IVIC scientists are fully working, deployed on the border, collaborating in the epidemiological care of those who return to the Homeland fleeing from the misery, xenophobic mistreatment and socioeconomic collapse in Colombia and other countries.
Professionals and scientists also work closely with the National Institute of Hygiene (INH), the Ministry of Health, as the governing body, and the Presidential Commission for the Prevention, Care and Control of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
He added that the IVIC has units to provide suits and biosafety elements and an irradiation plant for the sterilization of medical, alimentary and all kinds of material.
In this regard, he explained that together with the Ministry of Communes they have sterilized more than 100,000 face masks prepared by the People’s Power, and will continue in the coming weeks to collaborate with organized communities.
He considered that the initiatives of the People’s Power together with the National Executive are demonstrating the success of the social organization in Venezuela: “We have all come together as a society, and prepared as we are before the criminal blockade that wants to impede our sovereignty and independence, has strengthened and united”.
Sira said that IVIC professionals, scientists and staff will continue to work from science and technology to respond to the people and overcome this pandemic successfully and in People’s Power.

Venezuelan scientists advance prototype respirator to assist patients with COVID-19
Eloy Sira, Director of IVIC, reported that Mincyt, IVSS, the private industry and the Government of Miranda state are working on the “4th version of a mechanical prototype that can be mass-produced.”
