Head of State celebrates National Alimentation Day

The president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrates through his official account on Twitter, the National Alimentation Day, committing himself to continue fighting for the alimentary independence of the Homeland:
«Venezuela celebrates the Alimentation Day, facing the greatest battle for the right to our alimentary independence. Together with our people we will defeat all the evil plans against our country, with more effort, more production and more work. We shall overcome!”.
On November 18, 1949 was created the National Institute of Nutrition (INN) by presidential decree of Rómulo Gallegos as a response to the serious nutritional problem that a large part of the Venezuelan population was living.
Two years later, in 1951, in commemoration of the date of creation of the INN, was celebrated for the first time the Alimentation Day in Venezuela on November 18.
The INN, in connection with the social policies implemented by the National Government, has worked hard to guarantee the nutritional well-being of the Venezuelan people, through various actions such as carrying out missions in communities to educate on alimentary matters, to encourage the consumption of natural foods in daily meals.
Previously there was a food pyramid to administrate what and how we should eat to be healthy, this in turn was replaced by the INN, with the current Food Spinning top, which was created in 1999.
The objective of this is to strengthen a nutritional culture that rescues our values and encourages the consumption of our foods, which in turn constitutes one of the strategies of the Venezuelan State to ensure the Alimentary Sovereignty and Security.
On the other hand, the Venezuelan government has also implemented campaigns against overweight and obesity, such as the recently implemented “Take notice, Eat Healthy”.
