US Department of the Treasury sanctions the DGCIM

The United States Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions against the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) of Venezuela, amidst a statement from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Treasury Department of the North American country, where it says “The following entity has been added to the List of SDNs (List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) of the OFAC.
The agency has affirmed that these sanctions have been driven by the death of Corvette captain Rafael Arévalo while he was in custody of the security forces on accusations of conspiracy and participation in an action to overthrow the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro.
The US Department of the Treasury, after downplaying the fact that two Dgcim officials were indicted for murder in connection with the death of Acosta, has accused the Venezuelan agency of using violent methods against its opponents.
The sanction implies the blocking of all assets and assets that the Dgcim has directly or indirectly under the jurisdiction of the North American country, in addition to the prohibition of any legal transaction involving North American individuals and entities.
