Venezuela rejects US interference in its sovereign actions

The National Government rejected the “interfering and impertinent” statements by the United States Department of State (USA) through its spokesman Robert Palladino, on the sovereign decision to implement protocols before the incursion of two ships hired by the transnational ExxonMobil in jurisdictional waters

In a statement issued by the Chancellory, is made the observation that the statements are issued “without repairing in the rules of public international law”, which demonstrates their intention to “promote corporate interests linked to the elite ruling in Washington”.

Palladino, in a message broadcast on his Twitter account, urged Venezuela to “respect international law and the sovereignty of its neighbors” and it is obvious that the exploration vessels were in waters within the projection of the Venezuelan Orinoco Delta and not in an Economic Zone of Guyana.

In response, the Foreign Ministry of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urged the US authorities to “stay out of relations between sovereign States and to deal with their internal affairs”.

On Saturday, December 22, the Bolivarian National Navy, in compliance with international treaties, intercepted two seismic exploration vessels in jurisdictional waters of Venezuela. In this regard, the Venezuelan nation demanded that Guyana respect its sovereignty, while urging to reestablish direct dialogue with the Venezuelan authorities.

Below, the full text of the statement:

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the intrusive and impertinent communication from the US Department of State on the sovereign action of December 22 by the Bolivarian National Navy, in strict protection of the undisputed Venezuelan jurisdictional waters.

The oil exploration vessels hired outside the international legal framework by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana were in waters within the projection of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela, so they could never have been located in an Exclusive Economic Zone of Guyana.

The vessels abandoned the Venezuelan waters after an exchange of communications with the Bolivarian National Navy, which was carried out in strict adherence to international standards and the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace.

Clearly it is evident that the US government interferes with convenience in a matter that is not at all of its concern, in order to promote corporate interests linked carnally with the ruling elite in Washington, without noticing the most elementary rules of law public international. We strongly urge the US authorities to stay out of relations between sovereign States and to deal with their internal affairs and problems.

Caracas, December 25, 2018. “
