In the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 6,408, Presidential Decree No. 3,624, which entered into force on September 25, stipulates that 8,381 foreigners living in the country are entitled to apply for Venezuelan naturalization.

So far, the Autonomous Service of Identification, Migration and Foreigners (SAIME) has received more than 600 applications to complete the naturalization process. In this context, SAIME encourages foreigners published in said Official Gazette, to go to any office of the institution in their jurisdiction with two copies of their identity card and a copy of Gazette No. 6,408, where should appear their name and the signature of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

The process of naturalization requires that the foreign citizen comply with some specific characteristics within the legal framework of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through article 33, numeral 1, 2, 3.

Likewise, the foreigner must comply with uninterrupted residence of 10 years and of five years in the case of those who have as their nationality of origin Spain, Portugal, Italy, or Latin American and Caribbean countries, so they accept the Venezuelan nationality previous fulfillment of the requirements required, according to Art. 33, numeral 1.

In the event that they marry a Venezuelan by birth, they will be granted Venezuelan nationality after a declaration of will and when elapsed at least five years after the marriage was celebrated, according to Art. 33, numeral 2.

For underage foreigners, for the date of naturalization of the father or mother who exercise parental authority over them, provided that they declare their will to be Venezuelan before they reach twenty-one years of age and have resided in Venezuela uninterruptedly during the five years prior to the request, according to Art. 33, numeral 3.

Among foreigners who have been naturalized are persons of Colombian, Chilean, Ecuadorian and Haitian nationality.
