Maduro: Voluntad Popular was preparing kidnapping of former BCV president

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reported on Thursday that was dismantled a plan promoted by members of the extinct right-wing party, Voluntad Popular, who intended to kidnap former Economy Minister and former president of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Nelson Merentes.

“We captured a group from the Voluntad Popular terrorist party. We have recordings, videos, witnesses, of the terrorist party preparing the kidnapping and attack on the former president of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Nelson Merentes”, denounced the Head of State in a Facebook Live broadcast.

“I gave the order to the General in Chief of the SEBIN – Bolivarian Intelligence Service, Gustavo Gónzalez López, to show the evidences to the country on Friday”, he said, as well as also announced that two individuals belonging to said criminal gang were captured.
