Venezuela nominated to Executive Board of Unesco

The Venezuelan Vice-Chancellor for Foreign Affairs, Rubén Darío Molina, said on Monday that Venezuela’s candidacy to join the Unesco Executive Council is another sign of commitment to peace policies, dialogue and respect for the law which has assumed the country and the Government of President Maduro.

Molina, during the meeting held in the Unesco Circle of delegates, stressed the importance of this application for his country in the fight against the campaign that seeks to isolate, boycott and block the Bolivarian Government in a political, financial, economic and cultural manner.

The Vice-Chancellor considered that the attacks against Venezuela have become «an obsession of constant siege and destabilizing attacks on our participatory democracy, with interference in our internal affairs, driven by powers that have gone so far as to threaten military action and to deepen unilateral coercive measures that undermine the human rights of our people».

According to Moreno, Venezuela’s intention to run for Unesco’s Executive Board is to contribute to the strengthening of Unesco’s constitutive principles.

He also urged the organization to «build a culture of peace, based on values of understanding, cooperation, complementarity of different visions and moral and intellectual solidarity, as well as respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples».

The Executive Council will meet from Wednesday in Paris and one of the points to be discussed on the agenda is to elect members for the 2017-2021 period.
