Conatel guarantees mechanisms in Radio and TV for compliance with the Law

The director of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Andrés Eloy Méndez, said on Thursday that the agency is working for compliance with the Law on Responsibility in Radio and Television and called on Venezuelan journalists and social communicators to respect the Code of ethics that rules the profession, in order to ensure an informational balance.

«We have the responsibility of Radio, TV and Electronic Media, as established by the Law and it has been evident the battle we have fought for compliance with the Law on Radio and TV (…) there are always comments to make within the framework of The law, there are journalists who have come with a narrative becoming active and passive coverers of violence», he added.

During an interview in the «Encendidos» (Turned On) program of Venezolana de Televisión, he said that the violence promoted by opposition elements in public calls as well as inciting war and crime should not be overlapped.

Regarding the Electronic Media, they will begin to «apply the law more effectively in this area of electronic media, because every country has the right to digital sovereignty and that has to be respected. We are working on this issue and there will be important news to protect and enforce the law. »

Mendez said that «It will not be the media that sets the country aflame … It will not be the electronic media, nor the conventional media, that will lead us to the designs of the United States Southern Command that promotes an intervention in Venezuela».

He denounced that there are people who operate accounts of influence in social networks and act without any responsibility, against the legislation in force in Venezuela and the principles of responsibility.
