As a result of the dialogue table promoted by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan opposition grouped in the MUD agreed to fight the economic boycott.
Through a communiqué presented by the Vatican’s representative, Monsignor Claudio Maria Celli, the agreements reached by the political sectors were announced at the end of the second plenary session of the board of dialogue.
This document highlights the recognition of the existence of an aggression against the Venezuelan economy: “In the economic and social field, the National Government and the MUD agreed to work together to combat all forms of sabotage, boycott or aggression against the Venezuelan economy. They decided to prioritize in the short term the adoption of measures aimed at the supply of medicines and food on the basis of helping to promote their production and importation. To promote the design and implementation of cooperation policies between the public and private sectors in order to monitor, review and control the mechanisms of procurement and distribution of supplies and merchandise”, expresses the first commitment assumed by the political actors involved in the dialogue.
The dialogue board which was installed last October 30 is the result of the efforts made by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to establish mechanisms to guarantee the peace of the Venezuelan people. Representatives of both the Bolivarian Government and the opposition, grouped in the MUD, are accompanied by a representative of the Vatican, the UNASUR and the former Presidents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (Spain), Leonel Fernández (Dominican Republic) and Martín Torrijos (Panama).
