Bernal: It is not up to the NA to prosecute President Maduro

Freddy Bernal, national coordinator of the Local Committees of Supply and Production (CLAP), highlighted the functions of the National Assembly based on the Bolivarian Constitution of Venezuela, which highlights that it is not for the prosecution of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro.
During an interview on the “La Pauta de Hoy” (The Schedule for Today) program, broadcast by Venezolana de Television, Bernal said that it should be denounced to the international community the development of a parliamentary coup d’ etat that began last Sunday.
The leader quoted the duties of the NA according to Article 187 of the Constitution, specifying that it does not correspond to it to prosecute the Head of State. “When a public authority incurs in flagrant violations of the Constitution, the only responsible body for interpreting and ensure this is the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, therefore, since this instance in several judgments has determined that any act of the current National Assembly is null and void by entering contempt, is why any law or agreement (they make) has no validity, “he said.
Similarly, he compared the agreements by the NA and the coup d’ etat against Manuel Zelaya in Honduras, and said they have the same anti-legal base that is being taken against Nicolas Maduro.
He also highlighted the tenacity of the people to defend the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. “There is a moralized people who will not allow the Constitution to be violated and for the conspirators of always to trample the will of the majority,” he said.
Finally, he said there is a confronted opposition which has no leadership. “If they do not attend the dialogue, the leadership of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) will die.”
