Head of State stresses on the importance of global knowledge for scientific development

Within the framework of the commemoration of the first anniversary of the National University of Sciences “Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán», the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, formulated a strategic proposal for national development. The national dignitary urged to strengthen international cooperation and take advantage of global knowledge as a fundamental input for the scientific and technological progress of Venezuela.

The Head of State made an explicit call to actively seek global collaboration: «Seek the best collaboration in the world, learn everything there is to learn and can be learned from the world,» he indicated, establishing openness to universal knowledge as the first principle of his approach.

Based on this premise, President Maduro presented a formula structured in three consecutive elements. According to his presentation, this sequence is aimed at guaranteeing that Venezuela «walks on its own feet, thinks with its own head and does its things with its own hands.»

The first step of this strategy consists of the active absorption of external knowledge. Under the motto «Learn from everyone, everything that can be learned», the academic and scientific community is urged to maintain an attitude of permanent updating and learning from international advances.

The second step involves the practical translation of that knowledge at the local level. The Head of State was categorical when stating: «Do everything in Venezuela without excuse, everything that needs to be innovated and created to solve Venezuela’s problems… We have nothing to look for abroad, we can do everything here.» This axis prioritizes endogenous innovation and the autoctonal solution of problems.

The third and final point points to self-sufficiency as the ultimate goal. It is defined as «Never depending on anyone, in any aspect of the need, life and development of the country, absolute independence», thus consolidating a model of integral sovereignty.

In conclusion, President Maduro highlighted that the application of these three elements will generate «results of independence, of tranquility and happiness to build our own happiness», projecting a future of scientific self-determination and national well-being based on this strategy.
