The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute to Manuela Sáenz on the occasion of commemorating a new anniversary of her passing to immortality. Through Telegram, the Head of State highlighted the indomitable spirit and revolutionary work of the woman known as the «Liberator of the Liberator.»
«Although she was born in Quito, Manuela is also Venezuelan; thus we feel because of her drive, her spirit, her thought, and her work as a liberator,» detailed the national dignitary. He emphasized that her legacy remains relevant in the current struggles of the peoples of the Greater Homeland.
Maduro recalled that Sáenz was much more than a romantic partner of Simón Bolívar. He highlighted her valor as a «tireless fighter,» promoted to captain at Junín and to colonel at Ayacucho, where she faced royalist soldiers with pistol fire.
The president emphasized that Manuelita’s life represented a constant act of rebellion and a firm anti-oligarchic stance: «She was the rebel, the anti-oligarch, the confidante, and the advisor,» he affirmed, noting that she marked both Bolívar’s life and the path of liberation that peoples must follow.
He also emphasized her character as a voice of truth and justice, raising her voice to speak truths, however uncomfortable they might be. He invited everyone to see in her a mirror in which women and peoples should see themselves reflected to pave the way toward more just worlds.
Finally, the Venezuelan president honored Manuela Sáenz as «General-in-Chief of just causes.» He concluded his message by exclaiming: «Honor and glory to Manuela Sáenz, our General-in-Chief!», thus sealing the eternal recognition of her struggle for American dignity and independence.
