The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, unveiled in Aragua state the commemorative marker for the 4,000th commune. The event took place at the «General Rafael Urdaneta» Commune, located in the Sucre municipality.
During the ceremony, the Head of State was accompanied by the Governor of Aragua, Johana Sánchez, and Mayor Wilson Coy. Likewise, participated representatives of organized grassroots movements and members of the Ministerial Cabinet.
«Today we reach the 4,000th commune, (and are) on the road to the 6,000th, an empowered people, direct democracy, revolutionary democracy,» stated the President. He described the moment as symbolic, significant, and historic for the Venezuelan communal process.
Later, the President toured the facilities of the “La Segundera” Integral Diagnostic Center (CDI). This health center was prioritized for restoration during the recent National Popular Consultation by the thirteen Community Councils that make up the commune.
Governor Johana Sánchez detailed the newly inaugurated projects, which include a Community Pharmacy, a Mercal (government-run food distribution center), a slaughterhouse, and a water treatment plant. Were also inspected sports facilities, socio-productive spaces, and the self-governance center of this new instance of the People’s Power.
She also emphasized that the independence of the Republic is based on an organized and conscious people: «This people will not be enslaved by the gringo empire,» she affirmed to the assembled community, receiving a resounding response of support.
Finally, the event was attended by the Ministers for National Commerce, Luis Villegas; for Youth, Sergio Lotartaro; and for Communes, Ángel Prado. Writer Ignacio Ramonet also attended as a special guest at this celebration of communal power.
