Venezuela salutes the recognition by the United Nations’ rejection of the escalating hostilities and unjustified aggressions by the United States. Thus was signaled by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, in a message on his accounts on social media, highlighting the importance of this institutional stance against violations of international law.
The head of the Venezuelan Diplomacy specifically praised that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, had condemned the military attacks by the US in the Caribbean. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than sixty people, according to official reports.
Likewise, he manifested that Venezuela will keep urging the entire United Nations system to utilize the capabilities entrusted to it by the peoples of the world. This call aims to defend the peace and sovereignty of all nations, especially the declaration of the Caribbean region as a «Zone of Peace.»
Within the current context, Caribbean parliamentarians are meeting in Caracas to reaffirm the 2014 CELAC declaration. The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that this declaration «is being brutally threatened at this time,» reinforcing the need for regional unity.
