The Venezuelan government has strongly rejected the statements by the President of the United States, who admitted to authorizing covert CIA operations against the country’s peace and stability. In an official statement, it described these claims as warmongering and extravagant, posing a grave threat to the region.
The Venezuelan Chancellery, through Minister Yván Gil, denounced this admission as a very serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. He urged the international community to condemn these actions, which it considers immoderate and inconceivable for peaceful coexistence among nations.
The statement also warned of a coordinated hostile policy, expressing alarm over the use of the CIA and the announced US military deployments in the Caribbean. Venezuela interprets these actions as a clear policy of aggression, threats, and harassment against its sovereignty.
In a formal response, Venezuela announced that its Permanent Mission to the UN will raise the complaint with the Security Council and the Secretary-General. It will demand accountability from the US and the adoption of urgent measures to prevent a military escalation in the Caribbean, a zone declared a zone of peace by the CELAC in 2014.
Finally, the Venezuelan government warned that impunity for these acts would have serious political consequences. It called for an immediate halt to these actions in order to preserve the construction of peace and the sovereignty of the free peoples of Latin America.
Following, the Communiqué:
“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the bellicose and extravagant statements by the President of the United States, in which he publicly admits to having authorized operations to act against the peace and stability of Venezuela. This unprecedented statement constitutes a grave violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and compels the community of countries to denounce these clearly immoderate and inconceivable statements.
We observe with extreme alarm the use of the CIA, as well as the military deployments announced in the Caribbean, which constitute a policy of aggression, threats, and harassment against Venezuela.
It is evident that such maneuvers seek to legitimize a «regime change» operation with the ultimate goal of seizing Venezuelan oil resources. Furthermore, the statements by the US president seek to stigmatize the Venezuelan and Latin American migration, fueling a xenophobic and dangerous rhetoric.
At the extraordinary meeting of Chancellors of CELAC, convened by the Pro Tempore Presidency of Colombia, Venezuela formally presented this denounce and demanded an immediate regional response. Tomorrow, our Permanent Mission to the UN will raise this denounce before the Security Council and the Secretary-General, demanding accountability from the United States government and the adoption of urgent measures to prevent a military escalation in the Caribbean, declared by CELAC as a zone of Peace in 2014. The international community must understand that impunity for these acts will have dangerous political consequences that must be stopped immediately”.
