The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) expressed last Friday their firm rejection of the US government’s measure to increase the reward for the capture of Venezuela’s constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, to $50 million, calling it a “grotesque and desperate maneuver.”
In a press conference, the Minister for Defense Vladimir Padrino López denounced this action as a reflection of US “desperation” and a violation of international law by being an interference in internal affairs.
He emphasized that Maduro is the legitimate president of Venezuela, recognized by the Constitution, and emphasized: “We clearly tell imperialism that Nicolás Maduro is our commander-in-chief and the highest authority in the nation.”
He also rejected accusations that Venezuela harbors a drug cartel, stating that the FANB (National Armed Forces of Venezuela) is working tirelessly to combat this narrative, which is being used as a political weapon. He highlighted the achievements in the fight against drugs since 2012, with the neutralization of 300 aircraft and the seizure of more than 51 tons of drugs in 2025, along with assets used in this crime.
Padrino López linked the promoters of these accusations to those who support violence against Palestine, calling attempts to defame the Venezuelan leader «immoral.» He reiterated that the FANB acts with dignity and honor, rejecting blackmail and foreign interference: «We are not mercenaries, nor do we accept ultimatums from foreign powers,» he concluded.
