President Nicolás Maduro inaugurated the Federal Government Council this Wednesday, convened after the municipal elections of last July 27. The Council was created to accelerate projects arising from popular consultations and integrate the new local leaders into the 7T (7 Transformations) National Plan, designed to promote the country’s development.
Last July 27, Maduro announced in a press conference his intention to meet with governors and the 335 elected mayors to design a strategy to strengthen and expedite community initiatives prioritized by citizens.
During the meeting, he also assigned regional and local leaders the task of defining specific goals for the creation and consolidation of 6,000 municipalities throughout the country.
The governors were gradually arriving at the Government Palace, where they were welcomed by Maduro and the first lady, Cilia Flores.
The Federal Government Council is the body responsible for coordinating policies for decentralization and the transfer of powers from national power to states and municipalities. Its last session was held on January 28 in the Ezequiel Zamora Hall of the White Palace.
