Head of State urged to strengthen a direct democracy that guarantees People’s protagonism

In a new edition of his «Con Maduro en la Vía» (With Maduro on the Road) program in the Sucre municipality of Miranda state, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening a direct democracy that guarantees the people’s protagonism.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Cilia Flores, the Vice President of the National Assembly (AN), Pedro Infante, and the Minister of People’s Power for Communes, Ángel Prado, the president emphasized that democracy in the country has evolved and improved over time. He stressed the importance of consolidating a «permanent, real, and full» democracy, in contrast to what he called a «false democracy»:

«We are building it together with the people, with the citizens men and women, because they are the true protagonists of their history,» said Maduro, who recalled the legacy of the late leader Hugo Chávez and his vision of a participatory democracy, rather than a merely representative one.

In his speech, he compared citizen participation to a theater play, where each person must take an active role in national transformation. For her part, First Lady Cilia Flores highlighted the progress toward this democratic model, noting that it is a «direct and permanent system, which is being built daily.» She also emphasized the strengthening of People’s Power as the basis for decision-making in the country.

During his tour of the Petare parish, parliamentarian Pedro Infante reported that there are 90 communal circuits in the Sucre municipality, 59 of them in Petare, which reflect the growth of community organization and the active participation of the population.

In closing, President Maduro defended the effectiveness of direct democracy, asserting that it overcomes «intermediaries, distant governments, bureaucracy, indifference, and corruption.» This approach guarantees more effective and transparent processes for the benefit of the people.
