The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced Salvadoran leader Nayib Bukele for proposing an irregular exchange: to release Venezuelan citizens who are being held kidnapped under inhumane conditions in El Salvador in exchange for terrorists prosecuted in Venezuela.
In his weekly «Con Maduro+” program, the Venezuelan mandatary asserted that the Salvadoran government “commits systematic human rights violations» by keeping 252 Venezuelans retained in extremely precarious conditions without trial or access to legal defense.
Maduro compared their situation to that of prisoners in Nazi concentration camps, describing the treatment as deplorable and inhumane.
Likewise, he called Bukele “an instrument of the US establishment and Zionism”, insinuating that his rise to power would have been achieved “through a massive electoral fraud» and that he is acting with ulterior motives:
«Bukele has carried a historical stain that will not be erased for centuries,» declared the Venezuelan president, predicting a dark legacy for the current mandatary of El Salvador.
