The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Friday the formal start of the electoral campaign leading to the municipal elections and the historic Popular Youth Consultation scheduled for July 27th, in what he described as a fundamental step toward strengthening the country’s participatory democracy.
In a message broadcast on his official account on Telegram, the president called on the Venezuelan people to actively participate in this process, which will allow for the election of 335 mayors and 2,471 councilors and the decision-making process on priority youth projects through a national consultation.
The campaign start was marked by marches and caravans across the country, the enthusiasm of revolutionary activists, and the massive participation of young people in promoting their initiatives.
This electoral process includes, as a novelty, the first National Popular Youth Consultation, a mechanism that recognizes the leading role of young people, allows for the selection of priority community projects, and strengthens participatory local planning.
President Maduro emphasized that this election journey will once again demonstrate Venezuela’s democratic maturity, combining the election of authorities with the direct participation in building the future.
